Gingerbread Apple Crisp

Gingerbread Apple Crisp

I created this recipe as a last-minute way to try and get rid of the many apples I had sitting in my kitchen. By using a few ingredients that you already have in your kitchen this recipe is an easy way to get rid of extra apples if you buy too many like I usually do.

Tips & Tricks

  • I typically use a random mix of apples since a mixed bunch of apples has a better flavor than just one flavor.

  • The sweeter apples that are best for this recipe include Ambrosia, Gala, and Red Delicious. You can use a Granny Smith as well just know that they are on the tart side.

  • I decided to use gingerbread spice for this recipe but you can definitely use cinnamon or pumpkin spice, it all depends on your preference.

The Recipe

Apple filling:

7 apples ( medium-sized, peeled, cored, and largely diced)

1/8 tsp. of gingerbread spice (or pumpkin spice)

1/4 c. brown sugar

1/3 c. white sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

  1. Add all of your apple-filling ingredients into a bowl and mix well. Set aside.

Crumble Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned oats

1/3 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon white sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/8 tsp. of gingerbread spice

1/2 stick of unsalted butter (melted)

Procedure:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

  2. In a separate bowl combine all of your crumble topping ingredients and mix with a fork and set aside.

  3. Grease your baking dish with butter or a nonstick spray.

  4. Pour your apple filling into your greased dish and spread evenly. After doing this then dump all of your crumble mix on top of the apples until they are completely covered.

  5. Cover your dish loosely with aluminum foil, and then place it on a sheet tray in case spillage occurs.

  6. Bake for 40 minutes while covered with aluminum foil and then finish off in the oven uncovered for an additional 20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy on top.
