Apple Cider BBQ Sauce
Although the cooler months are among us, there’s no reason to stop eating bbq. In the picture above I did a quick and easy crockpot bbq dish using chicken. When making this sauce I was aiming to get a flavor that was more on the tangy/sweet side. I usually don’t like bbq sauce that is too sweet or too spicy, so this was my variation of something that was more middle-of-the-road but with a decent amount of tanginess.
Tips
Feel free to taste as you go. If you prefer a sweeter sauce just add a few tablespoons (s)of sugar and taste or if you like a more vinegar-based flavor feel free to add a splash and try it.
With sauces like these remember that the recipe is simply a guideline. You can add more or less of these ingredients to achieve your flavor preferences.
The Recipe
32 oz. Ketchup
1 c. Water
1 c.+ 1 Tbs. brown sugar
2/3 c. Apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. Garlic powder
1 tsp. Onion powder
3 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. Black pepper
Combine all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a low simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Be sure to mix it while doing so.
